Last week we were given the assignment of creating a storyboard. I'm going to be honest I thought a storyboard was a mood board. I discovered I had it completely wrong and it was a way of communicating a story using imagery and strong design techniques including salience. In the story, we needed to be able to communicate the twists and turns of the journey. The story was inspired by our haiku. There is a line in my haiku stating “take all our money”. I believe this is talking about consumerism. I wanted this tail to almost be a reflection to readers about the effects of consumerism and the negatives of unethical fashion consumption. I wanted to specifically communicate the theme of waste leading to global warming in this storyboard using digital illustration. I first wrote out in the tutorial the scene and setting then what I wanted in each of the 12 boxes. It took me a while on what I wanted in each box as I wanted every part to be relevant and contribute to the overall story. I then drew out very very rough sketches to give myself an overview. Looking back on it I was originally going to set it out so it was read vertically and the final 3 boxes were going to be in black and white. I although see this change in the final copy.

As I wanted all the boxes to be cohesive I planned a colour scheme. Here is my final one here:

I then sketched out all my boxes on procreate. Here is the process of me turning one sketched box into an illustration.

I repeated the process on my other planned out boxes. Here is my final story board:

a brief overview of my story board (read vertically)

1) fashion designer Mary Katrantzou sketching out a rough blazer design for a high profile fashion show

2) ironing and cutting material to show process of creating dress

3) finally the fashion designer can dress the mannequin blazer is complete before show

4) make up on model pre fashion show

5) model walking down runway with blazer the fashion designer made

6) paparazzi. everyone wants to see the latest runway fashion.

7) consumer sees posts all over social media of the pictures of the fashion show and cant help but notice how pretty and stylish the model is. the consumer is in awe and now wants one of her own.

8) consumer goes out and buys one of the Mary Katrantzou blazers as she wants to be on trend

9) wears the statement piece out

10) eh worn it once the consumer bins her blazer as there is new style and colour now!

11) we follow the blazer to the landfill and see hundreds of other clothes from people with the same mentality

12) a stark image of the earth in flames as the clothes are hung out over top to symbolise global warming and fashions huge impact of it. how lots of individual actions can lead to large consequences.
