If you have already viewed my about me page, you would have read about my interest in fashion. Ever since I was a little girl I loved trying to dress up my bratz dolls in paper garments and make outfits out of anything I could find. I would make hangers out of paper clips to hang them on and make a ‘season’ of fits. While I have so many favourite designs I really wanted to focus on my favourite trend at the moment in streetwear fashion called the ‘baguette’ bag.

It was dubbed the baguette bag because the shoulder bag was made to sit comfortably under the arm in the same way the french are known for carrying the long thin crusty bread.

I personally find it extremely hard to find a handbag that doesn't take away the attention from the outfit I am wearing. Something small enough to carry around daily but is big enough for essentials.

The bag designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi in 1997 solved these basic issues. The bag is an oblong shape with a short strap, usually with a zip or flap closure. The design itself is very practical as it can tuck easily under your arm. It is both practical and aesthetically pleasing. I just love how it comes in so many different colours and materials that you are sure to find one that will fit your style. Like a bumbug it has the convenience of being hands free and the size is just right. There is nothing worse then a bag too small or too big where it turns into a black hole and swallows up all your stuff.

See I feel as though this design is so simple and sleek. Gives me major late 90’s/00’s vibes. You just feel like Brittany Spears when you carry one. It makes me question although how come this simple design took until the late 90s to be created? Fendi (so iconic) have taken the simple handbag, innovated, found the needs most likely through the design process and then reworked the simple handbag into something that is a timeless design. The handbag isn't a new idea. They just reworked it into an even better one. This is what excites me so much about design.
